Date: Nov 13 , 2024
Time: 2:00 pm

As an official partner of City of Kindness, Solana Beach is proud to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th - a days dedicated to spreading compassion and positive actions throughout our community and beyond.

The purpose of World Kindness Day, as defined by the World Kindness Movement, is “to highlight good deeds in the community, focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness that binds us.”

Kindness has a ripple effect, where even the smallest act can inspire others to pay it forward, creating waves of goodwill that uplift everyone.

This year, we’re bringing that spirit to life with the City’s first ever World Kindness Day special event, an uplifting celebration on Wednesday, November 13th, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Fletcher Cove Park.

This family-friendly event has something for everyone, with kindness-focused activities like painting kindness rocks, making friendship bracelets, and writing thank-you notes.

The San Diego Blood Bank will be on-site for those interested in giving the gift of life, and Solana Beach Backpacks for Kids will be collecting food donations to support local families.

Enjoy live music by the Rock Academy, free face painting, lawn games, and light refreshments.

When we are KIND, we inspire others to BE KIND, creating a ripple effect that flows through our community. Come celebrate the awesome power of kindness and help us continue to build a community where kindness shines!

San Diego Blood Bank Kindness Day Drive

Looking for a way to make a difference? The San Diego Blood Bank bus will be parked right in front of Fletcher Cove Park on Wednesday, November 13th, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, giving you the chance to perform a silent act of kindness by donating blood. You don’t need to attend the Kindness Celebration event to participate—just come by, roll up your sleeve, and help save lives!

Donors will receive a limited-edition Comic Con Deadpool and Wolverine t-shirt as a thank-you gift. This exclusive Comic Con shirt was such a hit that it sold out this summer, so we’ve brought it back especially for November drives like this one. Appointments are encouraged to ensure you have time to donate, but walk-ins are also welcome.

Saving lives is always in season! Schedule your appointment today and make a huge impact with a simple, generous act.

What is World Kindness Day?

World Kindness Day is an international celebration that was started in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13th as part of the World Kindness Movement. The purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago, this international holiday is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia.

World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness, we encourage you to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together.

Kindness is Contagious!

When we are KIND, we inspire others to BE KIND, and it creates a RIPPLE EFFECT that spreads outwards. Just as a pebble creates waves when it is dropped in a pond, acts of KINDNESS ripple outwards, touching others lives and inspiring kindness everywhere the wave goes.

The positive effects of kindness are experienced by everyone, even those who witnessed the act, improving their mood and making them significantly more likely to “pay it forward.” This means one good deed can create a domino effect and improve the day of dozens of people!

Kindness Rocks! Community Project

Have you noticed a painted rock around Solana Beach? Kindness Rocks! is a fun community project that is all about kindness, caring, and community. Kindness Rocks! has brought people together and put smiles on faces, especially during the unusual times of this pandemic.

The Kindness Rocks! project was started by an individual here in Solana Beach and has since created a huge ripple effect, inspiring many residents and community groups to join in as well. The Solana Beach City of Kindness Committee, Solana Beach Civic & Historical Society (Seaweeders), and a Girls Scout Troop have all joined in to spread kindness around Solana Beach.

Residents join in this community project by painting their own rocks! Please remember to include #SBCityofKindness on the bottom of the rock to join in the Kindness Rocks! community project. And always remember to take a few photos to share on social media using #SBCityofKindness. This type of kindness has a ripple effect!

Get Inspired

Did you know that kindness is teachable? “It’s kind of like weight training, we found that people can actually build up their compassion ‘muscle’ and respond to others’ suffering with care and a desire to help.” Dr. Ritchie Davidson, University of Wisconsin.
