The Solana Beach Community Senior Center is committed to providing excellent resources, fostering meaningful personal relationships, and offering fulfilling growth opportunities for aging well. The Senior Center is open to everyone and you do not have to be a church member or live in the city of Solana Beach. The main center is  located at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church’s Devin Hall (120 Stevens Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075).

Monthly Activities

Wednesday Programs & Lunch

Wednesdays are BIG days at the Senior Center, featuring classes, discussion groups, games, entertainment, and a delicious lunch.  Enjoy a fun program and delicious meal with friends every Wednesday in Debin Hall. Programs/Entertainment start at 11:30 AM and lunch starts at 12:15 PM.

Reservations are required one week in advance. Lunch is $9 per person or $10 for to-go meals. Special funds are available for anyone needing assistance. Contact Cindy at (858) 509-2587 for more information.

  • October 2: David Topham plays the Wood that Sings. Menu: Stuffed Potatoes & Salad Bar. (RSVP by 9/25)
  • October 9: Professionally trained musician, Daniel Newheiser performs all your favorite tunes. Menu: Mediterranean Grill. (RSVP by 10/02)                      
  • October 16: Mission Focus: Kingdom Builder Foundation. Menu: Soup & Salad. (RSVP by 10/9)
  • October 23: Celebrate October Birthdays with Adrienne Nims and Mark Danisvowsky performing an October music program. Menu: Oktoberfest. (RSVP by 10/16)
  • October 30: Blind Pianist, Vincent Young, will amaze you with both his talent and personality! Menu: Goulash. (RSVP by 10/23) 

Fun and Games

Join fellow seniors for games like Bridge, Scrabble, Mahjong, and more. Knitters and crocheters are also welcome! Meet in Debin Hall on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM for a morning of fun before the Wednesday Program & Lunch. Games and crafting end at 11:20 AM, just in time for the 11:30 AM lunch program. Memory Cafe

Get connected, make friends, and keep your brain active! The Memory Café is an enjoyable gathering for older adults to socialize, learn about keeping your brains healthy, and have some fun! Memory Cafe is sponsored by the George Glenner Family Centers and meets on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month from 10:00-11:30AM in the Ministry Center Hall (formerly known as the Hispanic Chapel). Feeling Fit Club (Virtual)

Stay active from home on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30-9:30 AM with this free virtual fitness class. Led by Sue Grant, this class is sponsored by San Diego County’s Aging and Independent Services. Silver Age (Chair) Yoga

Open to all on Fridays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Debin Hall’s lower level, Room 16 (Parking in lot #2 is easiest). Instructors, Elizabeth Young and Terri Rucker, co-lead the Silver Age Yoga class, which is designed specifically for the needs of seniors of all ability levels. This “chair only” class means no mats and no getting on the floor. There is no fee, but donations are welcome for non-profit Silver Age Yoga. 

Book Club

The Book Club kicks off another season of great discussions. If you love reading, want to keep your mind sharp, and enjoy expanding your social circle, this group is for you! Join this great group for in-person discussions on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1:15 PM, in Debin Hall's Room 15. If you are interest in joining the Book Club, contact Carol Pletcher at (858) 248-3528 or pletcher.carol@gmail.com.  

October Discussion will be on "One Book, One San Diego" on Wednesday, October 9th. Copies of the One Book, One San Diego choice will be distributed in September.

Ginny's Sewing Club

If you love to sew, then come join this lovely group of gals who meet every 1st & 3rd Wednesdays at 10:00 AM in Debin Hall’s lower level, Room 16 to stitch and chat. There are plenty of non-sewing tasks as well! They often bring lunch to enjoy some social time together after the sewing session. Music Appreciation 

Our favorite Music Man, Randy Malin continues to provide interesting, educational, and entertaining music appreciation classes (complete with video presentations)...all via email.

October Adventure Opportunities

Escondido Pumpkin Station

It is time to experience the wonders of fall. On this excursion you’ll be sure to get your “spirits” lifted as we ride the tram through the sunflower fields, feed the animals, check out the pumpkins, and shop for holiday supplies.

San Diego Zoo

Mark your calendar for a fun-filled animal adventure and come along with us as we spend Halloween at the San Diego Zoo!

Gleanings for the Hungry Trip to Dinuba, CA on October 20-25.

Join a group of friends and spend a wonderful week supporting the efforts of YWAM’s Gleanings for the Hungry in California’s beautiful Central Valley.  There’s a lot to do and something for every skill and energy level. You might be packing dry soup mix, assist with office tasks, painting or making tied quilts. You’ll be living in motel type rooms with bathrooms and all meals furnished.  The cost is less than $20 per day! Transportation is by carpooling in private cars. Flights are available to Fresno as well. Detailed information in the Encore Newsletter.

HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program)

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program offers free assistance in dealing with your health insurance issues, questions or problems with providers. Appointments are private and focus on your specific questions. HICAP now offers information & assistance with Medicare Part D – low cost medications. Call 858-565-8772 to schedule an appointment.

Senior Legal Services

This service is offered on a donation basis. Seniors 60+ will find counsel on Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Financial matters and more.
