Solana Beach Community Connections: September Lecture Series
Southern California Gardening and Gondwanaland
The Effects of Continental Drift on Plant Evolution
On Tuesday, September 17, discover what ornamental plants come from other continental locations such as Zealandia and be surprised that we use them in our gardens in Southern California. The presentation will begin at 5:30 PM at La Colonia Community Center located at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach.
Steve Anthony, a noted horticulturalist and landscape designer specializing in drought tolerant landscaping, who lives and works in San Diego’s North County, will present a slide show featuring plants from the South Pacific Island of New Caledonia, once a portion of Gondwanaland. Gondwanaland was formerly a single, large continent when Antarctica was joined to South America, Africa, India and Australia.
This presentation kicks off the annual lecture series co-sponsorship by Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC), Friends of the Solana Beach Library (FOSBL) and the City of Solana Beach Parks and Recreation Department. There is no charge for this event.
