The Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society invites the community to a special Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, April 26th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Solana Beach Post Office, located at 153 S. Sierra Avenue. This celebratory event marks the official unveiling of nine newly commissioned murals that now adorn the interior walls of the post office.

Mayor Lesa Heebner, members of the Solana Beach City Council, Postmaster Richard Zamora, and mural artist Kevin Anderson will be in attendance to commemorate the project with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

The murals were commissioned by the Society’s Board of Directors following a recent repainting of the post office interior. Staying true to the organization’s mission of civic education and community beautification, the new murals offer vibrant depictions of iconic Solana Beach landmarks and scenes. Artist Kevin Anderson, a Solana Beach native with a long history of public art throughout San Diego County and Southern California, was selected for the project. Anderson drew inspiration from his upbringing on Glenmont Drive and time spent surfing at Fletcher Cove, also known as Pillbox.

The artwork showcases familiar local imagery including coastal views, marine life, Fletcher Cove Park, the downtown Plaza area, and a special montage honoring La Colonia de Eden Gardens, the city’s founding neighborhood.

The event will include light refreshments and guided tours of the post office and sculpture garden led by the SeaWeeders, the Society’s dedicated garden volunteers.

This community celebration is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend and enjoy an afternoon of art, history, and local pride.
