Glenmont Neighborhood Pocket Park
The City of Solana Beach is in the process of developing a preliminary design and concept plan for a small neighborhood park on approximately half an acre on the Santa Fe Irrigation water reservoir site located on Glenmont Drive. For discussion purposes, a passive open space concept that includes a meandering walking trail, drought-tolerant landscaping, pollinator garden areas, art nodes and potential sitting areas was prepared. The concept of this neighborhood park is proposed to work with the existing natural topography of the site while reflecting the coastal elements of Solana Beach while respecting the current use of Larrick Reservoir as a vital infrastructure element of our community.
Project Update - July 2024
The City continues to work with Santa Fe Irrigation District (SFID) to explore the possibility of the development of a park along Glenmont Avenue adjacent to the SFID reservoir. The City has initiated discussions with SFID to create an agreement and a timeline for the development of a future park at this location. The site is presently used by SFID as a construction staging and laydown yard for the recently completed water pipeline upgrade project. The City has been informed that it will also be needed for a near-term project to repair and/or replace the existing tank roof, and conduct other seismic and system retrofits. SFID is currently conducting a study of the scope and timeline for that reservoir repair work, which is anticipated to be completed early 2025. At that time, the City will be able to create a timeline for design, funding, bid, and construction. In the meantime, the City has already begun doing some conceptual design work to create a harmonious, functional, and aesthetic park environment that integrates into the surrounding community character and fosters community engagement. Future fiscal year work will include city and CCC permitting, construction RFP and bid process, and construction.
