The residents of the City of Solana Beach have expressed a desire to further enhance the identity of their City as an artistic community. To ensure that the cultural experience of the City is enriching and engaging, the community, through its Public Arts Program intends to celebrate its artistic heritage and vital art community by embracing the area's cultural potential and opportunities, thus guaranteeing future generations a rich artistic legacy. By acquiring and exhibiting quality works of art, providing access to a variety of performance arts, and by offering a diverse mixture of cultural events, it is the City of Solana Beach's intent to be a destination for public art.

Public art displays, art shops, the Public Arts Advisory Commission and the artists who live here make Solana Beach a destination for art lovers.

Current Call For Artists

The City and the Solana Beach Public Arts Commission are excited to offer four distinct call for artists opportunities. Each of these opportunities provides a unique way for artists to contribute to our city’s artistic landscape. Check out the full list of Call For Artist Opportunities.

 

Temporary Public Arts Program 2024-2026 Rotation

The City is now accepting applications for the 2024-2026 Temporary Public Arts Rotation. The Temporary Public Arts Program is a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their works of art in a high-traffic urban and ocean-view environment attracting Solana Beach residents as well as tourists from around the world. Artists are invited to submit sculptures of various sizes for consideration for a two-year exhibition. 

The program aims to select five (5) pieces to be displayed at highly visible, designated temporary public art sites spread across the beautiful coastal community. If selected, the artist will receive a $3,000 stipend for a two-year loan. 

Submissions Deadline: Monday, September 16, 2024 at 5:30 PM.

New City Street Banners Design

The City is now seeking public artists to submit design proposals for a new set of City street banners. The Street Banner Program has long been a key element of the City’s promotional efforts and now the City is looking to replace the current city banners with a fresh, visually appealing set that reflects Solana Beach’s diverse values and interests. The new banners aims to promote five key themes: Active Transportation, Arts & Culture, City of Kindness, Environmental Sustainability, and Shop & Dine Local. The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend for creating a cohesive set of Solana Beach banners.

Fletcher Cove Storm Drain Beautification Project 

The City is now accepting designs proposals for a new storm drain metal outlet grate at the base of Fletcher Cove Beach. The selected design will contribute to the beautification of this beloved coastal spot and the larger Fletcher Cove Ramp Reconstruction project. While artists won't handle manufacturing or installation, their selected design will serve as a conceptual guide for the final product.

The selected artist will receive an artist stipend of $2,000 for the completion of a comprehensive design.

City Hall Gallery Program 2025 Exhibitions

The Public Arts Commission invites you to submit applications for the 2025 City Hall Gallery exhibitions. We're on the lookout for captivating individual or group art and educational exhibitions to be featured throughout the year. With six exhibitions planned, each spanning 8 weeks, here's your opportunity to make a lasting impression on the vibrant Solana Beach art scene. Artists should be prepared with an ample body of work, they are encouraged to take a tour of the space and be familiar with the wall space in order to fill the designated areas.
