Coastal Rail Service Suspended for Two Weekends in March

The North County Transit District (NCTD, The District) will suspend all coastal rail service for two weekends in March to perform routine railroad maintenance and major infrastructure work. The first coastal rail line closure will occur this weekend, Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9, and the second will occur Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23.
NCTD COASTER service between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended during this period. Regularly scheduled service will resume the morning after each closure, Monday, March 10, and Monday, March 24.
Weekend closures occur periodically throughout the year on a pre-determined schedule to provide construction crews the opportunity to work safely on and along the rail line to complete preventative maintenance improvements and advance major railroad construction projects.
While no passenger or freight trains will operate during this weekend closure, other test trains, construction vehicles, and equipment will be active along the railroad right-of-way and on the tracks throughout the weekend. Residents along the corridor should remain alert and the public is reminded to only cross the rail line at lawfully designated rail crossings.
Work on March 8-9 will occur in the following locations:
- Track Maintenance – San Onofre to Pulgas (daytime only)
- Track Maintenance – Poinsettia station to La Costa overpass (24-hour operations)
- Track Maintenance – Cedar St. to Beech St. in San Diego (daytime only)
- Station Improvements – Carlsbad Village Station (24-hour operations).
Work on March 22-23 will occur in the following locations:
- Track Maintenance – Miramar to Washington St. (daytime only)
- Track Maintenance – Sorrento Valley Station (24-hour operations)
Customers are urged to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements. Alternatives for COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Trolley and Bus connections.
