The City of Solana Beach continues to invest in infrastructure improvements to enhance public spaces, improve road conditions, and support sustainable landscaping efforts. From trail enhancements and road repairs to landscaping and public art, these projects reflect the City’s commitment to a vibrant, well-maintained community. Whether you’re walking, biking, or driving, you’ll notice improvements designed to enhance daily life for residents and visitors alike. Here’s a look at the latest updates.

Coastal Rail Trail: Decomposed Granite Restoration

To maintain the quality and accessibility of the Coastal Rail Trail, the City’s landscape maintenance team has completed work to restore the decomposed granite (DG) edging along the path. Over time, minor erosion had caused sections of the DG to shift, creating uneven surfaces. Crews refilled and leveled these areas, ensuring the trail remains in optimal condition for pedestrians and cyclists.

Santa Helena Asphalt Repairs Completed

The Santa Helena roadway, from Sun Valley Road to the San Elijo Lagoon, recently underwent necessary asphalt repairs. Crews focused on removing and replacing deteriorated sections of pavement, addressing localized wear and tear to extend the life of the road. These improvements enhance overall driving conditions and ensure a safer, smoother commute for residents and visitors.

Highland Drive Median Enhancements

The medians along Highland Drive, adjacent to Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, are being transformed with a focus on sustainability and aesthetics. The City is implementing drought-tolerant landscaping, incorporating water-efficient plants, granite boulders, and concrete edge treatments to reduce water usage while enhancing the area’s visual appeal.

Additionally, a new temporary public art installation will be introduced to the median as part of the 2025-2026 Temporary Public Arts Exhibit. Approved by the City Council, this initiative aligns with the City’s ongoing efforts to integrate public art into community spaces. The new sculpture is expected to be installed by the end of the month.

Fletcher Cove Park Mosaic Shower Restoration Completed

The iconic mosaic shower at Fletcher Cove Park has been successfully cleaned and restored! This maintenance project, which began on February 6, included deep cleaning, removal of mineral deposits, staining, and the application of a protective sealer to preserve the artwork’s vibrant colors and intricate details.

The shower reopened on February 13 and is now in excellent condition for residents and visitors to enjoy. Thank you for your patience during the temporary closure as we worked to maintain this special community amenity.

A Greener, More Walkable South Sierra Avenue

Enhancements are underway along South Sierra Avenue, improving the walkway between the Distillery Parking Lot and the pedestrian crossing to Fletcher Cove Park. A new sidewalk and tree grates have been installed, improving accessibility and walkability in the area.

The next phase of this project will increase greenery and shade, with 13 new trees scheduled to be planted along South Sierra Avenue, South Acacia Avenue, and in the Distillery Parking Lot. These additions will help beautify the neighborhood, provide environmental benefits, and enhance the pedestrian experience.

We appreciate the community’s support and patience as these improvements take shape. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the Engineering Department at (858) 720-2470 or pw-eng@cosb.org.
