The City hosted a Coastal Cleanup Day site at Fletcher Cove Beach on Saturday, September 21st. A big thank you to all the volunteers who joined us early Saturday morning and helped collect over 30 pounds of litter from the beach! In total, 27.8 pounds of trash and 3 pounds of recycling were collected. The most common item found was nails (over 300 collected), which were left behind in the sand from bonfires. The second most common pieces of litter were small plastic fragments and food wrappers, with 139 pieces collected.

As a reminder, burning pallets or any wood containing nails, screws, bolts, or other hardware is strictly prohibited, as is disposing of burnt materials in the sand (pack-in, pack-out policy applies). All beach fires must be contained in City-approved fire devices with a solid metal bottom and sides to fully enclose the fire and burnt material. This helps prevent nails and other debris from posing a safety hazard to our community and wildlife.
