Celebrate Bike Month with BikeWalksSolana

Join BikeWalkSolana in celebrating Bike Month this May! Enjoy a variety of events supported by a grant from the City of Solana Beach.

Smart Cycling classes - Tuesday, May 7th & Saturday, May 11th

Do you want to gain confidence in coexisting safely, legally, and courteously with vehicle traffic in Solana Beach and along the coast? Attend a Smart Cycling class held locally! The 3-hour Classroom Session will be held May 7th at La Colonia Park from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. This prerequisite is followed by the 6-hour Road Session on May 11th, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm starting at a BikeWalkSolana member's home.

Special for Solana Beach residents only: your $50 fees for both classes will be refunded upon completion of the Road Session.

Register NOW at https://sdbikecoalition.org/smart-cycling as these classes have enrollment limits. This program is designed for adults, but teens aged 13-16 may attend, provided their parents also register and complete both sessions. E-bikes are welcome. For youth rider, the shorter 3-hour City Cycling classes is recommended and will be offered in Solana Beach over the summer - stay tuned.

Community Ride - Saturday, May 25th

The Community Ride is an annual BikeWalkSolana event that tours all around the Solana Beach community. Starting at La Colonia Park at 10 AM, the group will pedal through the lovely neighborhoods of Solana Beach at a leisurely pace. This 13.7 mile ride will be led by qualified ride monitors. Previous tours had well over 100 people of all ages joined this family friendly event. Even more are expect this year, so please arrive by 9:30 AM to register sign a waiver, and receive instructions before our departure time of 10:00 am. Be sure that your bike is in good working condition: ABC = Air (inflated tires), Brakes (working ones), and Chain (lubricated). Please wear a helmet, and bring your own water and snacks. Stay for the raffle at the finish, and you might win a prize!

Family Fun Ride - Sunday, May 26th

Mark your calendar now for the Family Fun Ride, co-sponsored by the Solana Beach PTA and BikeWalkSolana. Join a parade of other families on bikes meeting at a location to be determined in the morning and cycling along a flat 2-3 mile route along the Coastal Rail Trail and Hwy 101. Decorate your bike or wear a costume, if you’d like!

Solana Beach Walking Scavenger Hunt - Anytime throughout May

BikeWalkSolana and the Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society (SBC&HS) want you to go take a hike---through a part of our charming city by the sea. This self-guided 3.5 mile Walking Scavenger Hunt can be completed at any time during the month of May.

Walkers will enter their answers to questions about our fair city's undiscovered places and its interesting history on a cell phone or paper form. Scan the QR codes on historical plaques guiding you to the SBC&HS website to find the answers. Return your completed answer form, and your name will be entered in a raffle for prizes.
