Draft Climate Action Plan Update Open For Public Review
The City of Solana Beach’s Draft Climate Action Plan Update is now available for public review through Friday, May 24, 2024 at 5pm.
Solana Beach last adopted a Climate Action Plan in 2017. As a part of the 2017 Climate Action Plan, it was established that an update would be conducted every five years, to address any new state legislation and technology. In 2022, Solana Beach began the update process. Through the Climate Action Plan Update process, new greenhouse gas emission targets were established to align with state goals – 50% reduction by 2035 and 85% reduction by 2045. The Draft Climate Action Plan Update outlines the measures and actions that Solana Beach will need to implement to meet the 2035 goal. Actions include promoting environmentally friendly transportation; expanding the pedestrian and bikeway network; installing electric vehicle charging stations; promote incentives to electrify gas appliances and equipment; identifying suitable sites for community solar; increase planting of climate appropriate trees; and raise awareness about food waste and recovery.
The Climate Action Commission will be discussing the Draft Climate Action Plan Update at the May 15 Commission meeting. The Climate Action Commission meeting on May 15 will take place within the Council Chambers at 5:30pm. The agenda will be posted by May 10 here.
