Date: Feb 20 , 2025

The North County Transit District (NCTD, The District) will suspend all coastal rail service on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, in San Diego County to perform routine railroad maintenance and infrastructure work.

NCTD COASTER, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, and BNSF freight services between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended during this period. Metrolink arrivals and departures out of the Oceanside Transit Center are also suspended. Services will resume regular schedules the morning of Monday, February 24, 2025.

Weekend closures occur periodically throughout the year on a pre-determined schedule to provide construction crews the opportunity to work safely on and along the rail line to complete preventative maintenance improvements and advance major railroad construction projects.

While no passenger or freight trains will operate during this weekend closure, other test trains, construction vehicles, and equipment will be active along the railroad right-of-way and on the tracks throughout the weekend. Residents along the corridor should remain alert and the public is reminded to only cross the rail line at lawfully designated rail crossings.

Work on February 22 and 23 will occur in the following locations:

  • Batiquitos Lagoon Double Track - Northern Encinitas to Southern Carlsbad (daytime only)
  • Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5 - Del Mar (24-hour operations)
  • Track Maintenance – Southern Solana Beach (daytime only)
  • Track Maintenance – Miramar Area of San Diego (24-hour operations)
  • Track Maintenance – Ash Street, Downtown San Diego (night work may occur)

Customers are urged to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements. Alternatives for COASTER passengers may include BREEZE Route 101 or San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Trolley and Bus connections.

Riders can find the most up-to-date schedule information at GoNCTD.com/Schedules or by contacting NCTD Customer Service at (760) 966-6500.
