Traffic Advisory: Solana Beach Triathlon Road Closures
The Solana Beach Triathlon, Duathlon & Aquabike invites you to an epic day living the active lifestyle!
This fantastic event is made even more special by its idyllic location…Fletcher Cove at Solana Beach. Iconic Southern California at its best. The surf-entry ocean swim is supported by lifeguards and swim buddies. The bike and run courses cruise down the world famous Pacific Coast Highway. Finally, a tunnel of high-fives awaits you at the finish line - a gauntlet of excitement. This is a sprint triathlon/duathlon/aquabike that will be remembered forever.

Upcoming Road Road Closures
This community event is expecting 900 participants with an additional 200 spectators. Residents should prepare for the influx of visitors and temporary road closures for this event. However, the impact should be fairly minimal as the race starts at 7:00 AM and will conclude about 10:30 AM. Please consider planning your route accordingly and allowing extra travel time. Road closures for the event are as follows:
Road Closure for Saturday, July 27th (Pre-Race Expo):
- South Acacia Street, from Plaza Street to Dead End, at 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Road Closures on Sunday, July 28th (Triathlon):
- South Acacia Street, from Plaza Street to Dead End, at 4:00 AM - 12:00 PM
- Hwy 101 (northbound), from Via De La Valle to Las Olas, at 6:45 AM - 10:00 AM
- Hwy 101 (southbound), from Lomas Santa Fe to Via De La Valle, at 6:30 AM - 10:30 AM
- Lomas Santa Fe, from Cedros Ave to Hwy 101, at 5:00 AM - 10:30 AM
- Plaza Street, from South Sierra Ave to Hwy 101, at 5:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Vehicular traffic will be diverted northbound and southbound through Solana Beach on Sierra beginning at 6:45 a.m. by SD County Sheriff Dept. personnel.
Course Maps
The Triathlon and Duathlon both start and finish at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach (North San Diego County).
Triathlon
The swim is in the open ocean at Fletcher Cove. Triathletes start and finish at the cove completing a 1/4 mile U-shaped course. Water temperature is approx. 66-70 degrees, wetsuits are optional. Athletes will then bike a 9 mile flat double lapped course on Highway 101 and then run a 3 mile double lapped flat course on Highway 101. The run course and bike course both have TWO LAPS!
Duathlon
The duathletes will complete an out-and-back 1 mile run on Highway 101 and Dahlia Drive. Athletes will then bike a 9 mile flat double lapped course on Highway 101 and then run a 3 mile double lapped flat course on Highway 101. THE RUN COURSE AND THE BIKE COURSE BOTH HAVE TWO LAPS!!!
