Storm Advisory: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Solana Beach

The National Weather Service forecasts widespread rain and strong winds from Wednesday through Friday, with the heaviest precipitation expected on Thursday and Friday. Coastal and valley areas in San Diego County are projected to receive 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain, which may result in localized flooding, hazardous travel conditions, and debris hazards. A Flood Watch will be in effect from Thursday at 1 PM through Friday at 4 AM.
In response, the City of Solana Beach is taking proactive measures to support residents and encourage preparedness.
Sandbags Available for Residents
To assist residents in protecting their properties from potential flooding, the City has made pre-filled sandbags available in the City Hall parking lot (635 S. Highway 101). Given limited supply, residents are asked to take no more than five sandbags per household. Please prepare accordingly as the rain may be heavy and the winds will be strong at times. The City is working diligently to restock sandbags as needed to ensure availability throughout the storm.

Protect Your Home with Sandbags
Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to use sandbags to help divert water away from structures and prevent damage. Free pre-filled sandbags are available at Solana Beach City Hall, while supplies last.
Drive with Caution
Wet roads can be extremely hazardous. Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance, and remain alert for standing water and debris.
Turn Off Irrigation to Conserve Water
With significant rainfall expected, residents should turn off their irrigation systems to prevent unnecessary runoff and water waste.
Be Aware of Fallen Branches & Debris
Strong winds may cause tree branches and other debris to fall onto streets and sidewalks. Pedestrians and motorists should exercise caution in affected areas.
Prevent Pollution – Keep Storm Drains Clean
Rainwater entering storm drains is not treated before reaching local creeks, rivers, and the ocean. To help protect our waterways:
- Properly dispose of trash and debris
- Sweep up leaves and yard waste instead of hosing them into the street
- Ensure soil and sediment do not wash off your property
To report storm water pollution, or if you have questions about storm water run-off from your own property, please call (858) 720-4424 or email stormwater@cosb.org.
Keep All Trash, Recycling & Organics Cart Lids Closed
Always keep the lids on your trash, recycling, and green organics carts securely closed to prevent rainwater from soaking materials, adding excess weight, and causing disposal issues. Keeping water out also helps reduce the risk of groundwater contamination at landfills.
By taking proactive measures, residents can help reduce storm-related hazards and contribute to the safety and well-being of the Solana Beach community.
Stay safe, stay informed, and let’s work together to keep Solana Beach prepared.
