Solana Beach Cares Donation Station

As part of our World Kindness Day Celebration, we’re proud to include Solana Beach Cares - a new, year-round community program that brings neighbors together through seasonal kindness drives.

For this season donation drive, the City has partnered with Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) to collect cheerful, practical items for Holiday Gift Baskets for Solana Beach seniors. These baskets will be gifted to local “solo-agers” - seniors who may be spending the holidays alone due to the loss of a spouse or having family who live far away. Your donations will helps brighten their holiday season and reminds them they are valued and supported.

Donate and get rewarded! Bring an item to donate at the event and receive a special World Kindness goodie bag as a thank-you.

What to donate: We’re collecting cheerful, practical items such as: 2026 calendars, crossword or Sudoku puzzle books, hot chocolate packets, holiday mugs, nightlights, jar openers, travel tissues, lip balm, lotion, dish towels, eyeglass cleaner, warm non-slip socks, pens, Post-it notes, and small holiday treats like chocolates or mints,  or any small comfort item you would enjoy receiving yourself.

Help Us Identify Seniors in Need! Another meaningful way to support this effort is by helping us identify Solana Beach seniors who may be living alone and would appreciate a visit and a Holiday Basket. If you know a mature adult in our community who could benefit from a warm gesture and connection this season, please share their name and contact information with SBCC at info@solanabeachcc.org.

For more details about the program, suggested donation items, senior referrals, and regular drop-off locations, visit the Solana Beach Cares page.

Volunteer & Booth Opportunities

If kindness is your superpower, we’d love to have you join us! We are looking for kind-hearted volunteers to help celebrate World Kindness Day by welcoming guests, supporting activity stations, and spreading positivity throughout the event.

We are also inviting community members, local groups, and organizations to host kindness-themed booths or activities. Whether it’s a simple craft, a gratitude station, uplifting messages, or another joyful idea. If it brings smiles and encourages kindness, we want to hear from you!

To sign up as a volunteer or propose a booth/activity, please email Kayla Moshki at kmoshki@cosb.org.

San Diego Blood Bank Kindness Day Drive - Thursday, November 13

Can't make the event but still looking for a way to make a positive impact? The San Diego Blood Bank bus will be parked in the Solana Beach City Hall parking lot (635 S. Highway 101, Solana Beach) on Thursday, November 13th, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, giving you the chance to perform a silent act of kindness by donating blood. You don’t need to attend the Kindness Celebration event to participate - just come by, roll up your sleeve, and help save lives!

November is also National Diabetes Awareness Month, so everyone who donates at this drive will receive a free AIC test when they donate.

As a special thank-you, all donors will receive a limited-edition Padres t-shirt and a kindness goodie bag. The Padres shirt was such a hit that it sold out this summer, but the San Diego Blood Bank brought it back especially for this drive. Appointments are encouraged to ensure you have time to donate, but walk-ins are also welcome.

Saving lives is always in season! Schedule your appointment today and make a huge impact with a simple, generous act.

What is World Kindness Day?

World Kindness Day is an international celebration that was started in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13th as part of the World Kindness Movement. The purpose of World Kindness Day as outlined by the World Kindness Movement is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” Since its creation more than two decades ago, this international holiday is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia.

World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness, we encourage you to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together.

Kindness is Contagious!

When we are KIND, we inspire others to BE KIND, and it creates a RIPPLE EFFECT that spreads outwards. Just as a pebble creates waves when it is dropped in a pond, acts of KINDNESS ripple outwards, touching others lives and inspiring kindness everywhere the wave goes.

The positive effects of kindness are experienced by everyone, even those who witnessed the act, improving their mood and making them significantly more likely to “pay it forward.” This means one good deed can create a domino effect and improve the day of dozens of people!

Kindness Rocks! Community Project

Have you noticed a painted rock around Solana Beach? Kindness Rocks! is a fun community project that is all about kindness, caring, and community. Kindness Rocks! has brought people together and put smiles on faces, especially during the unusual times of this pandemic.

The Kindness Rocks! project was started by an individual here in Solana Beach and has since created a huge ripple effect, inspiring many residents and community groups to join in as well. The Solana Beach City of Kindness Committee, Solana Beach Civic & Historical Society (Seaweeders), and a Girls Scout Troop have all joined in to spread kindness around Solana Beach.

Residents join in this community project by painting their own rocks! Please remember to include #SBCityofKindness on the bottom of the rock to join in the Kindness Rocks! community project. And always remember to take a few photos to share on social media using #SBCityofKindness. This type of kindness has a ripple effect!

Get Inspired

Did you know that kindness is teachable? “It’s kind of like weight training, we found that people can actually build up their compassion ‘muscle’ and respond to others’ suffering with care and a desire to help.” Dr. Ritchie Davidson, University of Wisconsin.
