Public Art Piece "Pinion" Restoration Completed!
The popular public art piece Pinion has been refurbished and returned and is even more beautiful than ever! The sculptor, Jon Koehler, has restored the 20-foot kinetic stainless steel sculpture back to its original condition and has further enhanced the piece to withstand the coastal environment, as it is now part of the City's Permanent Art Collection! The piece was safely return to its original location at the corner of N. Cedros Avenue and E. Cliff Street on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
The Pinion was first installed back in 2013 as part of the City’s Temporary Art Program and quickly became a community favorite. The positive response from the community led the City Council to approve the purchase of the art piece in October 2021. City Council also directed Staff to design the new and improved permanent base that you see to ensure continuous kinetic movement. The surrounding area will soon be improved with drought tolerant plants and succulents.
