COVID-19 INSPECTION GUIDANCE AND INFORMATION
The City of Solana Beach implemented citywide emergency service changes that were effective Tuesday, March 17th, which placed inspection services temporarily on hold. The City of Solana Beach will now resume essential services related to building inspections beginning Wednesday, March 25th. These inspection services will resume by appointment only. The purpose of the Inspection Guidance document is to inform the public and contractors of the expectations of our inspectors and to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of customers, contractors, and City staff. The appointments will be coordinated with the respective inspector. Since services were placed on hold on March 17th, a list of inspections has been compiled, and the inspector will be in contact with individuals/contractors that have requested inspections. Inspectors have been directed to abide by the following instructions:
- Inspectors shall maintain social distancing as recommended by Federal, State and County Health Officials; a minimum six-foot social distancing during the inspection
- Only one point of contact by the contractor/property owner, if any, should be made during the inspection; removal of all other workers from the premises is expected
- Inspectors may decline an inspection if it is required to take place in an occupied house or unit
- Inspector will report such issues to supervisor and CityDirector
- Masks and gloves should be used whenever possible
- When touching items/plans and surfaces, the inspector shall wear gloves, may disinfect items and surfaces, and should frequently wash hands. When handwashing is not available, hand sanitizer should be used.
- Inspector may remove themselves from the property, and the inspection may be declined/failed if there is potential exposure to someone that is sick
- Inspector will report such issues to supervisor and CityDirector
To assist the inspector with their work, it is strongly suggested that the property owner/contractor prepare the area of inspection and have plans ready for review in the following manner:
- Disinfect areas that may be touched by the inspector in order for the inspector to complete their work
- Clear occupied spaces of people well before inspection time.
- Ensure only one point of contact is on-site during the inspection time
- Maintain six-foot social distancing during the inspection
- Please make sure the point of contact has no symptoms of illness that may concern the inspector’s ability to complete work
- Have plans available and laid out. Try to layout plans with the relevant pages open when possible.
