A Tsunami Advisory has been issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center for the San Diego County Coastline.

An 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia has prompted a tsunami advisory in Solana Beach and throughout San Diego County.

There are no evacuation orders issued for the City of Solana Beach. City officials and those of neighboring coastal agencies are currently coordinating with the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services and as of now, officials say evacuations are not likely.

Hourly coordination meetings in cooperation with the National Tsunami Warning Center and State of California OES are scheduled ahead of an expected landfall between 1 AM and 1:30 AM Wednesday, July 30th.

During a tsunami, coastal flooding and powerful currents are possible and may continue for several hours or days after initial arrival. Coastal areas could experience strong currents that may be hazardous to swimmers, boats and coastal structures.

An anticipated surge of approximately 1ft for coastal areas is expected around 1 AM and 1:30 AM on Wednesday, July 30th. Solana Beach Marine Safety Department will be monitoring the impact and advise the public to stay away from beaches, waterways, piers and jetties.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
